Police in Fort McMurray are handling the death of a man in a house fire earlier in the week as a homicide, after an autopsy was completed.

Wood Buffalo RCMP said an autopsy on a 25-year-old Fort McMurray man was carried out Thursday in Edmonton – and the results of that autopsy has led police to handle the case as a homicide.

Back on Tuesday, January 6, emergency crews were called to a home on Grandview Crescent in Fort McMurray at about 1:25 p.m.

Officers, along with the fire department responded – the fire was put out, and one person was found dead inside.

At last word, investigators were still trying to determine the exact cause of the fire.

The identity of the deceased has not been released.
