Police in northern Alberta said officers were investigating, after a woman was found dead in a home located in a community near High Prairie, Alberta.

High Prairie RCMP said on September 8 at about 2:30 p.m., officers were called to a home at the Atikameg First Nation, after a deceased woman was found inside.

When officers arrived, witnesses said that while they were on their way over, a man with a firearm had entered the residence.

The Police Dog Service, and an RCMP Emergency Response Team responded along with High Prairie RCMP – when officers entered the home, they found the body of Mary Ann Thunder, 83, and a deceased male.

The male has not been identified, police said.

Autopsies are scheduled for Wednesday, September 10, when cause and manner of death will be determined by the Medical Examiner.
