Whitecourt RCMP said officers were called to a river near Whitecourt Thursday afternoon, over the drowning of a young boy.
Officers were called to the Mcleod River near a recreation area at about 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
Emergency Medical Services staff and the Whitecourt Fire Department were on scene, and a 7-year-old boy was in medical distress.
STARS Air Ambulance was called in to assist, but the young boy was pronounced dead that evening.
