Slave Lake RCMP responded to a two vehicle collision early Wednesday morning approximately 35 kilometers east of Slave Lake.

At about 6 a.m. a truck heading west collided head on with an eastbound truck, both vehicles landing in the ditch on separate sides of the highway.

One of the drivers, a 53-year-old male was pronounced dead at the scene. The other driver had minor injuries and was taken to hospital by ambulance.

The highway was closed down but reopened hours later. Motorists in the area are requested to slow down due to poor visibility and heavy snow conditions.

Slave Lake RCMP along with a RCMP collision analyst will continue to investigate.

The name of the deceased will not be released.
