Police on Monday night asked people who live in a part of the County of Wetaskiwin to shelter in place as officers deal with an incident.

Wetaskiwin RCMP advised people living along Township Road 441 between Range Road 224 and Highway 822, about 35 kilometres southeast of the city of Wetaskiwin, to shelter in place while they respond to an active event involving a person believed to have firearms.

They announced the advisory was over early Tuesday morning, but provided no further detail.

During the order, police said nearby residents should stay inside their homes, lock their doors and stay away from windows.

Wetaskiwin is 65 kilometres south of Edmonton.
