Grande Prairie RCMP are searching for the female driver of a vehicle that fled the scene, after a little girl was hit while crossing the street Monday afternoon.

Police said the 3-year-old girl was taken to hospital, after the stroller she was in was hit by a car at about 3:25 p.m. in Grande Prairie.

Investigators said the girl’s mother was pushing the stroller as she crossed east on 100 Street at the time.

The vehicle that hit the stroller was travelling northbound – all other vehicles on the road had stopped for the pedestrians.

The toddler was rushed to hospital by ambulance, the extent of her injuries is not known. Her mother was not injured.

RCMP are searching for the female driver of the vehicle – which is described as a red Pontiac, and looked similar to a Sunfire.

Anyone with information on the driver or the vehicle is asked to call the Grande Prairie RCMP detachment at 780-830-5700.
