Police in northern Alberta are asking for the public’s help as they investigate the death of a man in his 20s in early January.

Wood Buffalo RCMP released the name of the deceased, Jonathan Bennett, 25, Monday – Bennett’s body was found by emergency crews who responded to a fire at his trailer home in Fort McMurray on January 6, 2015.

Two days later, an autopsy determined Bennett’s death was a homicide, and that he didn’t die as a result of the fire.

The cause of his death has not been released, and fire investigators haven’t given their report on the cause of the fire at the Grandview Drive home to police.

In an effort to track down persons of interest in the investigation, police released video footage of a car driving past Bennett’s home several times on January 6 before the fire, the footage also shows an individual walking by, wearing red or orange work coveralls with reflective bands on the sleeves and pant legs.

Stills of the video showed the driver wearing red or orange-coloured clothing with reflective stripes.

Anyone with information that can help identify the car and the driver, or the man on foot is asked to call Wood Buffalo RCMP at 587-644-1271. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
