Red Deer will host the Scotties Tournament of Hearts in 2012.

In an announcement Friday morning, officials revealed the tournament will be held in Red Deer at the Enmax Centrium from February 18-26th, 2012. That will mark the second time Red Deer has welcomed the best women curlers in the country.

"This is one of the best places in Canada for us to hold this event," said Warren Hansen with the Canadian Curling Association.

Back in 2004, Red Deer nearly broke an attendance record of about 113,000 spectators.

Organizers now say they have a goal of 125,000.

"I would say we could definitely beat that record and go down in history as the best Scotties ever," said Sherri Ryckman, chair of the Scotties Tournament of Hearts.

More than three million Canadians will watch the Scotties Tournament of Hearts final game on TSN. The mayor believes the event will result in some great exposure for the community.

"The talk is... it's about a $12 million dollar economic boost -- it's a boost for our volunteers, we really turn out volunteers," said Red Deer Mayor Morris Flewwelling.

Marion Bowles volunteered during the 2004 tournament and plans to do the same in 2012.

"Red Deer becomes kind of a hub, but without the surrounding communities we wouldn't have what we have here."

The 2011 Scotties' Tournament of Hearts will be held in Prince Edward Island from February 19 to February 27th.
