Heavy rains in parts of Northern Alberta have caused RCMP to close portions of busy highways in the area.

High Prairie RCMP have closed a portion of Highway 2 between Kinuso and Highway 33. Enough rain has fallen in the area to cause water to spill over the highway, causing unsafe driving conditions.

The following travel advisories are also in effect:

  • Highway 88 remains closed four kilometres north of the junction with Highway 2 north of Slave Lake. A detour is available in the northeast corner of the Town of Slave Lake from 12th Avenue to Tamarack Road.
  • Klondike Ferry remains shut down, which carries Highway 661 traffic across the Athabasca River east of Fort Assiniboine.
Water levels were beginning to lower Saturday morning.
