As the wildfire situation in Alberta continues to change, the blaze that destroyed parts of the town of Slave Lake is now listed as under control. Meanwhile, crews are battling one of the largest fires to burn in Alberta north of Fort McMurray.

The fire which caused one of the worst disasters in Alberta's history is now listed as under control. The fire burned less than 140,000 hectares in the Slave Lake area.

The blaze known as the Richardson Back Country fire has now burned 259,000 hectares. Crews are lighting small controlled fires to burn off possible fuel sources to prevent the fire from spreading. The north end of that fire is bordered by Lake Claire and the Athabasca River, which are preventing it from spreading north.

The wildfire situation in Alberta has improved dramatically over the last few weeks, currently, 37 wildfires are burning in the province. Of those, four are listed as out of control, with three being held.
