A 15-year-old girl from Sturgeon County is dead after an ATV crash over the weekend.

RCMP say Ashton Parrish was thrown from the ATV Saturday afternoon in the Spruce Island Lake Natural area north of Westlock.

There were three youths riding the ATV at the time of the crash, including a 14-year-old male driver.

Two youths were sent to hospital with serious injuries. The young girl was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say all three youths were wearing helmets at the time of the crash.

The victim was a student at Ecole Citadelle in Legal, Alta.

"It was shocking, we couldn't believe it, it didn't feel real," said Jeleze Cochlin who attends Ecole Citadelle.

There were only 11 other students in Parrish's Grade 9 class. Students and parents visited the school Monday to pay tribute to the teen.

"She was good with everybody, everybody loved her," said Guylain Jacques whose daughter was a friend of the victim.

The class had recently celebrated graduating from Grade 9.

Police say alcohol and drugs are not considered to be factors in the incident. They won't say whether speed played a factor in the crash.

Funeral plans for the teen have not been announced.
