Edmonton's largest Future Shop store held its grand opening Saturday with the help of rock star Gene Simmons.

Simmons spent the day signing autographs and meeting fans at the new 53,000 square foot Future Shop in South Edmonton Common.

"After 34 years I met my music idol, my business mogul idol, one of the best humanitarians there's ever been," said fan Veronica Trudel.

Three lucky winners who competed in a store competition also got to play Rock Band with Simmons.

"It is one of the greatest moments of my life. I get to play with a rock legend," said Ryan Johnson.

Simmons has been to Edmonton three times in the past five months. He says his record company is interested in developing some local bands.

"Canada's the big secret. If you take a look at the last 40 to 50 years you're talking about the rival of anything America has done from Joni Mitchell to Neil Young, even Paul Anka, Nickleback, it just does on and on," he said.

Simmons says Kiss will be coming to Edmonton to play another show, but wouldn't say when.
