Edmonton police said a man, who was the subject of Canada-wide warrants for his alleged role in the shooting death of a man last week, turned himself in to police Monday afternoon.
Police said Kalab Abberra Kitil, 22, turned himself in to police at the EPS Downtown Division Station just after 2:30 Monday afternoon – with his lawyer present.
Investigators issued Canada-wide warrants for charges of second degree murder, careless use of a firearm, pointing a firearm, knowledge of unauthorized possession of a restricted firearm, unauthorized possession of a restricted firearm in a motor vehicle and unauthorized possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition.
The charges stemmed from a shooting Monday, June 2 – police said a 22-year-old man was injured, as he and a few other people were in a vehicle travelling along 132 Avenue between 82 Street and 113 A Street.
The vehicle with the victim inside pulled up to emergency crews and police who were in the area of 113 A Street and 136 Avenue responding to an unrelated incident.
The man was taken to hospital in critical condition, but succumbed to his injuries and died in hospital Wednesday, June 4 – he was identified as Sultanbek Abdymamat Uulu, 22, and an autopsy confirmed he died as a result of a gunshot wound.
This is Edmonton’s eleventh homicide of 2014.
