The Alberta oilsands company at the centre of a wildlife disaster made a public apology in the Edmonton Journal on Saturday.

Syncrude used a full page ad to apologize for an incident that killed almost 500 ducks on Monday.

A migrating flock landed on a tailings pond on at a site north of Fort McMurray.

Syncrude said the sound canons they use to deter birds from the pond were not working at the time. They say the cannons are now in operation.
