A 14-year-old Edmonton girl who died last week after overdosing on ecstasy was laid to rest following a tearful funeral Saturday.

Cassie Williams, 14, was taken off life support Saturday after ingesting an estimated six tablets of ecstasy while at a Rock 'n' Ride event at West Edmonton Mall Friday, April 24.

Family and friends gathered in a northeast Edmonton Chapel Saturday to say goodbye to a young woman who was described by many as a unique, outgoing and accepting person.

"We're a singing family so as long as we're singing we know she's with us," said Cassie's mother Angela Eyre.

Family members say they will work together to raise awareness about teen drug use to hopefully prevent other lives from being lost.
