A 19-year-old Stettler man has been charged after a fatal vehicle collision on Saturday.
Trevor James Dahl has been charged with operation of a motor vehicle causing death, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death and failure to provide a blood sample.
The charges were laid after a Dodge Ram hit a stand of trees northwest of Stettler around 1:30 a.m. Saturday.
"It definitely involves alcohol," Sgt. Patrick Webb said.
"Unfortunately some people are just not getting the message that alcohol and driving does not mix," he added.
The collision killed 17-year-old senior Koralea Boettger.
Koralea's mother, Janel Boettger, said the young woman was set to graduate this spring and was an aspiring hairstylist.
"She was beautiful," Boettger told CTV News.
"I think this is everybody's biggest fear."
The high school senior had already picked out her graduation dress and was looking forward to traveling the world after she was finished school.
"She was passionate about everything," Boettger said.
Boettger's parents said everything had changed with the death of their daughter.
"Nothing will be the same for any of us," Koralea's father Ally Stewart said
"If it's true that they say the world is your oyster, she's definitely my most precious pearl," he added.
The couple said they planned to be in the Red Deer courtroom during Dahl's bail hearing.
"I am angry. We're all angry," Boettger said.
"No matter what happens to him now I realize in all my anger its not going to change anything that will ever matter."
Friends of Koralea were planning to wear bright colours to the high school on Monday as a tribute to her bright outlook on life.
