The 19-year-old man charged in a fatal collision that left a 17-year-old girl dead last weekend made his first court appearance in Red Deer Monday morning.
Trevor James Dahl, from Stettler, is facing several charges including dangerous driving causing death and failure to provide a blood sample.
Dahl was charged after the Dodge Ram he was driving hit a stand of trees northwest of Stettler, just after 1:30 a.m. Saturday morning.
The crash killed 17-year-old high school senior Koralea Boettger.
The collision happened as Boettger was on her way home from a party.
Family members of the victim attended the court appearance of the accused Monday morning.
"It's important for me to know that people are here in support of him, that they know my daughter had a face too," Janel Boettger, Koralea's mother said Monday. "And I will be here every time they're here."
The court appearance was brief, but long enough for an emotional outburst in the courtroom between a group in attendance to support Dahl, and the family of the victim.
Dahl has been remanded in custody, until his next court appearance which has been scheduled for Friday.
