Police are investigating after a 17-year-old was killed in a single vehicle collision in central Alberta.

Officials said the young woman died after a Dodge Ram pickup hit a stand of trees northwest of Stettler just after 1:30 a.m. Saturday.

The impact of the vehicle was on the right side of the cab, RCMP said.

They added that speed and alcohol were factors in the collision.

The 19-year-old driver of the vehicle has been taken into police custody and charges were pending.

The name of the victim will not be released at the request of the family.
