Strathcona County RCMP are investigating, after a serious collision left two teenagers dead Monday.

Officers were called to the scene of the fatal crash in the area of Highway 16 and Range Road 213 at about 12:40 p.m.

Witnesses told police the driver of the compact car was headed northbound on the range road, and stopped on Highway 16.

Investigators learned several vehicles went past the intersection, but the driver pulled out in the path of an eastbound truck.

Both vehicles ended up in the median as a result.

“There was one driver in the GMC [truck] that was transported to an Edmonton hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries,” Cst. Wally Henry with RCMP said. “Tragically, the 14 and 17-year-old boys that were in the Saturn were both pronounced dead at the scene.”

RCMP identified the two boys as Dalin, 17, and Logan Torresan, 14.

According to police, the two boys lived in a rural area nearby, and it’s believed they were heading into town at the time of the crash.

The driver of the pickup truck, identified as a 54-year-old man from Willingdon, Alberta, was injured.

RCMP said preliminary findings determined the driver of the smaller car didn’t proceed safely after coming to a stop at a stop sign.

Alcohol and speed are not considered to be factors in the crash.

Police said investigators would remain at the scene into Monday evening – as a result, both directions of the highway were expected to be down to one lane, and delays were expected until between 6 and 7 p.m.
