Three young men were killed early Saturday morning in a suspected drunk driving collision near Beaumont.

RCMP said the collision happened between a Dodge Ram and a Pontiac Grand Am just before 3 a.m. Saturday.

"They do believe at this time that both vehicles were traveling in the same direction, which was east bound on Highway 625 when they collided," Cst. Jodi Heidinger told CTV News.

Two 18-year-olds and a 22-year-old died on scene.

CTV News has confirmed the identity of the two teens as Brad Arsenault and Kole Novak.

Those who knew the boys said they were devastated by the news.

"It's just really too bad to hear about this," Chris Harvey said.

"It's quite a tragedy especially around this time of year."

"We were at the skate park often like you know same age, same age group," Mike Embury said.

"Could have been us. Could have been me," he added.

"It's not a comforting thought."

Friends say that Brad and Kole were best friends and often inseparable.

Police said they received a call from another driver who saw the Dodge Ram truck go off the road.

"A fourth male, 28-years-old from Beaumont was transported by STARS Air Ambulance to hospital," Cst. Heidinger said.

"He remains in hospital with life threatening injuries."

They said they believe speed and alcohol were factors in the crash.

The deaths come on the heels of new legislation to crack down on impaired drivers.

"It's very frustrating," Cpl. Heidinger said.

"I don't want to say it's surprising, but it's very frustrating because this province has great information and awareness and education out there.

Premier Alison Redford has said she expects the bill to become law by the New Year.
