A number of duplexes under construction were destroyed in a massive blaze in Fort Saskatchewan Friday evening.

Officials with the Fort Saskatchewan Fire Department told CTV News that crews were first called to the scene, located in the area of West Park Drive and Woodbridge Link at about 5:30 p.m. Friday.

When firefighters arrived, Deputy Chief Bill Heesing said they found duplexes under construction were fully involved.

Three duplexes, or six units were destroyed in the blaze, but fire crews were able to save surrounding structures.

Heesing said four units were evacuated, and those people were being put up by family or friends, or they were put up in hotels.

Five units from the Fort Saskatchewan Fire Department responded, and they had help from two units with the Strathcona County Fire Department. RCMP were also on the scene to keep the area secure.

No injuries were reported.

By 9 p.m., officials said the fire was under control, and the cause was under investigation.
