RCMP in northern Alberta are preparing to lay charges against three individuals, one teenager and two adults, after a pickup truck was stolen from a Grande Prairie neighbourhood, with an infant inside, Tuesday afternoon.

Grande Prairie RCMP said Wednesday that a 22-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman, both from Grande Prairie, and a 14-year-old Edmonton youth, would face a number of charges in connection to a truck theft that prompted an Amber Alert.

Between 12:30 and 1 p.m. on Tuesday, RCMP said a pickup truck was stolen from the Royal Oaks area of Grande Prairie – with a 7-month-old infant in the back seat.

The theft prompted an Amber Alert just after 2 p.m. in an effort to track down the baby – about an hour later, RCMP were called to a rural home located south of Grande Prairie, after a baby was dropped off, unharmed, at the home.

Police confirmed the baby was the one at the centre of the alert – and the Amber Alert was cancelled, but police continued to search for the stolen truck.

At about 4:15 p.m., officers said the truck was found at a forestry products mill south of Grande Prairie – where police managed to arrest three suspects.

On Wednesday, police said the adults accused in the case will face charges of kidnapping, theft of a motor vehicle, abandoning a child, possession of stolen property over $5,000, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and breach of recognizance.

The youth is expected to face similar charges.

RCMP said the accused remained in custody ahead of their bail hearings, which were expected to take place Wednesday afternoon.
