Edmonton police have laid charges against two drivers, after officers clocked two vehicles driving at nearly three times the speed limit earlier this week.

On Monday, at about 9:30 p.m., an officer on a police motorcycle saw two vehicles speeding, and weaving in and out of traffic eastbound on 137 Avenue and Castle Downs Road.

Police said the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG and a BMW M5 were clocked on radar travelling at about 160 kilometres per hour, in a 60 kilometre per hour zone.

The two vehicles were pulled over, and during the vehicle stop, two off-duty EPS officers also stopped, and reported they had seen the two cars speeding and changing lanes aggressively further back as well, on 137 Avenue at St. Albert Trail.

As a result, police have charged Ahmad Sayed Abou Alhassan, 26, and Jamal Ibrahim Smilley, 21, with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
