Edmonton police said Monday that two members had been charged in connection to an alleged incident dating back to the fall of 2012.

Police said the two officers were charged on Monday, following an investigation by the EPS Professional Standards Branch that was reviewed by Alberta Justice.

The investigation was launched after a complaint was filed that the officers used excessive and unlawful force on a person during an arrest – the incident reportedly took place September 4, 2012.

EPS said Const. Barry Fairhurst, a 9-year EPS member, and Const. David Olsson, an EPS member for two years, are each facing charges of assault.

According to police, both have been assigned to operational policing.
