Two people have been recovering in hospital after a head-on collision south of Leduc.

RCMP responded to the scene on Highway 2A near township road 483 around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Officers said a silver Toyota Highlander was heading south on the Highway when it crossed the centre line and collided with a red Toyota Matrix heading north.

The 31-year-old female driver of the Matrix was taken to hospital by STARS Air Ambulance.

She was in serious but stable condition.

The 62-year-old driver of the Highlander was also taken to hospital via ground ambulance.

He suffered minor injuries.

Investigators closed the section of the highway for a few hours and traffic was diverted.

Officials said they believe alcohol was a factor.

No names have been released.
