Environment Canada says two tornadoes touched down north and south of Edmonton during Thursday night’s storm.

At approximately 5:30 p.m., there was a tornado 5 kilometres northwest of Breton, and on Friday, Environment Canada received a second report of a tornado that occurred near Athabasca at 5:56 p.m. the day before.

Officials consider the Breton Tornado to be an EF 0 – the least powerful on the scale.

Environment Canada is still gathering information on both tornadoes.

Breton is located approximately 110 kilometres southwest of Edmonton, while Athabasca is about 150 kilometres north of the city.
