EDMONTON -- City crews are cleaning up shattered glass after dozens of bus shelters were smashed overnight in north Edmonton.

A City of Edmonton spokesperson told CTV News approximately 60 bus shelters have been vandalized in northeast Edmonton since the middle of last week.

Crews were cleaning up and replacing the glass on shelters along 160 Avenue and 167 Avenue between 82 Street and 97 Street on Tuesday morning.

The city estimates the damage at $45,000.

"It’s a senseless act, especially at a time when finances are already constrained," said City of Edmonton spokesperson Rowan Anderson. "Every Edmontonian pays for the repair costs."
