Police in Jasper are reminding drivers to be careful behind the wheel, after a man in his early 20s died in a highway collision early Monday morning.

Jasper RCMP were called to the scene of the crash on Highway 16 east of Jasper, near the Jasper Transfer Station at about 6:30 a.m. Monday.

Investigators said a 21-year-old man, who was driving a pickup truck westbound on the highway, crossed the centre line and collided with an eastbound truck pulling a trailer.

The vehicles collided head-on, the driver of the westbound truck, who was from Victoria, B.C. died as a result of the crash, the 35-year-old man from Edmonton, who was driving the second vehicle suffered minor injuries.

Police had to close both lanes of the highway for several hours Monday, while investigators gathered evidence and crews cleaned up the crash.
