Police are investigating, after a serious rollover on Yellowhead Trail Monday evening left a woman dead, and two teenagers in hospital.
Investigators said the crash happened after 6 p.m. on the Beverly Bridge.
It’s believed a white SUV lost control on the bridge, before hitting another vehicle, the bridge’s guardrail then rolling down an embankment.
Emergency crews were called to the scene at about 6:20 p.m.
The 40-year-old female driver was pronounced dead on the scene, a 13-year-old girl was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries, and an 18-year-old woman was also taken to hospital – she is in serious condition.
The eastbound lanes were closed between Beverly Bridge and Victoria Trail for several hours, while police investigated.
Traffic investigators are working to determine what caused the SUV to lose control – any witnesses of the crash are asked to call the Edmonton Police Service non-emergency line at 780-423-4567 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
