Another current member of Edmonton’s City Council announced her plans going into this fall’s municipal election – and she’s decided to step away from civic politics.
On Monday, Councillor Jane Batty became the latest councillor to go public with her plans, and said she would not seek re-election in Ward 6, after 12 years on council.
Batty said in a press release that she was ‘honoured’ to have represented her central-Edmonton ward.
“I look forward to my remaining months on Edmonton City Council and would like to thank the Mayor [Stephen] Mandel, City Councillors and members of the civic administration for their dedication and support during my time on City Council,” Batty said. “It has been a privilege to work with them and to serve the citizens of Ward 6 and Edmonton.”
Batty is just the latest to announce election plans – last week, Ward 12 Councillor Amarjeet Sohi announced he would seek reelection in his ward.
The other two announcements have concerned the mayor’s office – with sitting Mayor Mandel announcing he will not seek reelection.
However, Councillor Kerry Diotte has announced his plans to seek election as mayor.
Edmontonians will go to the polls October 21.
