The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) has released the autopsy results of a man believed to be involved in the shooting death of Constable Daniel Woodall.
On June 8, Edmonton police went to the west-end home of Norman Walter Raddatz, 42, to arrest him on outstanding warrants.
ASIRT said when officers, armed with a search warrant, attempted to enter the home, they were fired upon by Raddatz.
Constable Daniel Woodall was killed at the scene while a second officer, Sgt. Jason Harley, was injured.
Investigators said while police maintained what they referred to as custody and control of the scene, Raddatz retreated further into the home.
After the shooting stopped, the house caught fire and police later found a body in the basement – officials said the condition of the remains prevented identification.
Autopsy results released by ASIRT on June 11 confirmed the remains to be those of Raddatz, who died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Officials also said the suspected shooter was already dead by the time fire engulfed the home.
ASIRT’s investigation into the circumstances surrounding Raddatz’s death continues.
EPS’s investigation into the shooting is also on-going.
