The Riverside Golf Course and surrounding trails were taped off Thursday afternoon after groundskeepers discovered a deceased male in a stand of trees.

According to police officials, staff members made the gruesome find around 12:45 p.m., as they prepared for the start of the season.

"They were cleaning the greens at the time and they happened to be near a treed area and that's where they happened to locate the body," said Insp. Denis Jubinville.

"We think he's been there fairly recently, within the last little while, but we don't have any more information than that."

Homicide detectives and forensic investigators arrived on scene a short time later and are gathering evidence in what at this point is deemed a suspicious death.

Police say they have not yet determined if the male's death is a homicide. They will have more information when an autopsy is conducted. CTV is told the exam may be done as early as Friday.
