The City has released an update on the Metro LRT Line after it was shut down this past weekend for signal testing.
Officials said that they are ‘cautiously optimistic’ for a spring 2015 opening after they received the handover from Thales Rail Signalling Solutions Inc. to city control.
“Now that Thales has initiated the handover, our next step is to review and evaluate the documentation, which should take approximately one week,” said General Manager of Transportation Services, Dorian Wandzura in a press release.
However, handover of the signalling system cannot be complete until the City evaluates all safety aspects.
Once the handover is complete the City will need approximately six weeks to complete staff training before opening the Metro Line to the public.
“We’ve always said it’d be about 4 to 6 weeks to make sure our operators [and] maintenance staff are familiar with the system, so we're still cautiously optimistic [that] we’re going to open in 4-6 weeks,” said LRT design and construction manager Wayne Mandryk.
The Metro Line has been delayed six times, and was initially supposed to open in the spring of 2014.
