The City of Edmonton has unveiled its logo for the city’s bid to host the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Former Edmonton Airports president and CEO Reg Milley was also named as the chair of the bid committee.
“Edmonton set a new standard for the Commonwealth Games in 1978. We are excited by the prospect of hosting this event again and helping to take the Games to a new level,” Milley wrote in a press release.
Mayor Don Iveson said they hoped to rely on the city’s reputation as an “outstanding host city.”
“Our bid effort, in partnership with the Alberta government, is focused on convincing Commonwealth Games voters that Edmonton is the best host city in 2022.”
The city’s bid must be submitted to the Commonwealth Games Federation by March 2, 2015. The host city will be selected on September 2 of that year.
The logo was designed by Alberta-based ZGM Collaborative Marketing.
The announcement was made at City Hall on July 1.
