Muslims across the country are running a campaign in hopes of showing that Islam is not in conflict with Canadian values.
In Edmonton, the Hadi Mosque opened their doors Sunday afternoon to the public.
“We just want to tell our Canadian friends in the community we are living in Islam means peace and we practice peace,” Mohyuddin Mirza said.
“Many times people are suspicious of what is going on inside a mosque so we just wanted to show them that we are teaching our children. We have a library here. We have a worship area. Our ladies come, our children come we all talk about these current issues as well.”
The two-week Meet a Muslim campaign, which began March 1, was organized by Ahmaddiya Muslim Jama’at.
In the press release the group said the campaign was in response to the terror acts “carried out in the name of Islam” in Canada and around the world.
The group has created a website, a twitter account and a hashtag to promote the campaign.
