City council is exploring options for the future of Edmonton’s Chinatown Harbin Gate. The LRT expansion is set to go through the area where the gate currently sits.
There are a few options currently on the table. The first option would see the gate moved to 102 Avenue, and the footbridge at 97th Street removed. The second scenario is the same as the first, but would see the footbridge refurbished, and the third option would see a new Chinatown Gate built at 97th Street, and 101 Avenue and a new footbridge built.
Council has asked administrators to provide a new report on the cost of moving the bridge. The results are expected back in August.
