Edmonton's first baby of 2025 born at Grey Nuns Community Hospital
The first baby born in 2025 at an Edmonton hospital was an eight-pound girl at Grey Nuns Community Hospital, according to Covenant Health.
She was born at 12:29 a.m., weighing eight pounds, two ounces, the health provider says.
She had not been named by her parents Sukhdeep Kaur and Jasleen Singh Chohan as of Wednesday afternoon.
She was not the first baby born in the Edmonton health zone, however.
Oliver, a nine-pound and one-ounce boy, was born at 12:18 a.m. at the Sturgeon Community Hospital in St. Albert to Danielle and Brandyn Morrison.

"It's pretty great," the mom said of her second son's timing, right on his due date.
"Everybody was so excited. The gift shop at the Sturgeon Community Hospital gave us a gift basket, which was really nice."
Alberta's first baby born in 2025 was also a girl, named Amira, at Calgary's South Health Campus two minutes into the new year.
