Edmonton’s New Year baby is a boy.
Kael Hudson was born at 12:24 a.m. at the Misericorida Hospital.
He weighed 7 pounds, 7 ounces and was the first child for Erin and Jeff McAdam.
“It was a surprise. He wasn’t supposed to be due until the eighth,” Jeff explained.
The fame of being the first baby born in a new year is one that Doris Houle-Lewoniuk knows well.
She was the first baby born on January 1, 1942 at the old Misericorida hospital.
“It is a unique day to be born and it is a good start on life,” she said, adding it also made it easy for others to remember her birthday.
The second baby of the New Year was born two minutes later at the Grey Nuns hospital.
