Edmonton police said the search for two inmates who escaped Monday from the Edmonton Institution for Women, ended Tuesday night in the downtown core.
Police had said early Tuesday morning that officials at the Edmonton Institution for Women had reported two inmates had jumped the east fence and escaped at about 8:40 p.m. Monday.
Officers responded to the scene, the facility is located at 11151 178 Street, and tried to track down the inmates, but were not successful.
Later Tuesday, at about 8:30 p.m., police said someone in the downtown area called police after recognizing the two women. Officers responded and found them walking in the area of 104 Street and 102 Avenue.
The women are in police custody, and EPS said they would go back into the custody of the Correctional Service of Canada.
