Alberta Fish and Wildlife are investigating a poaching incident, after a grizzly bear was shot and killed in the evening of October 3 near Hinton, Alberta.
The fRI Research Grizzly Bear Program notified Fish and Wildlife that “that a mature male grizzly bear’s collar was transmitting a mortality signal,” the enforcement group said in a Facebook post.
Officers found the 450-pound bear on the Pembina River Road, about 48 kilometres south of Hinton.
“In Alberta, grizzly bears are considered a threatened species, and hunting them is illegal. The maximum penalty for this offence is a fine of $100,000 and/or one year in jail,” Fish and Wildlife wrote.
