Edmonton police announced Friday that investigators had charged four individuals, in connection to an early morning incident in the city’s west end – including an exchange of gunfire involving police.
According to police, it all began Thursday before 4 a.m. when police were called to an armed robbery at a convenience store in the area of 127 Avenue and 97 Street.
Then, at about 5:45 a.m., officers were called to a weapons complaint in the area of 96 Avenue and 180 Street.
It’s at that scene where police said officers found the same suspects connected to the robbery earlier that morning, when officers arrived on the scene, the suspects fled the area.
Police followed the suspects to the area of Whitemud Drive and 215 Street.
At that scene, police said shots were fired by officers, and six people were arrested – one of whom had suffered a gunshot wound and had sustained minor injuries.
Four of those six people were charged, three of them are young offenders and can’t be named.
The three young offenders are facing a total of 29 weapons-related and breach of recognizance charges.
In addition, an arrest warrant was executed on one of the accused, 21 were executed on another.
A fourth accused, an adult, is facing two counts of breach of recognizance.
Police are still investigating, but are not looking for any other suspects.
