A 34-year-old man is dead after a fatal stabbing in west Edmonton early Wednesday morning.
Police were called to the parking lot of the Super 8 Hotel on 118 Avenue and 168 Street around 2:30 a.m., after reports of an altercation.
Police say a victim was stabbed outside and then stumbled into the hotel's lobby, where EMS found him suffering from multiple stab wounds to his upper body.
"They initially started CPR, and there was lots of blood loss here, and again that CPR continued from here all the way to the Royal Alex Hospital," said EPS Staff Sgt. Barry Maron.
The man, who has been identified by police, succumbed to his injuries in hospital.
The homicide unit is now working on the case.
"We're currently looking for witnesses who may have been around, or heard something or seen something last night around that time," said Staff Sgt. Maron. "We're actively looking for suspects however I don't have any information on any suspects at this time."
The victim's name has not been released.
An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday - the incident will be classified as a suspicious death until autopsy results prove otherwise.
If deemed a homicide, it will be Edmonton's sixth of the year.
