Fire fighters did battle with 60 foot flames during a fire in west Edmonton Saturday morning.
According to district chief Doug MacDonald, the first crews responded to 129 Avenue and 168 Street at 3 a.m.
He said that the Lonestar Lumber building was fully engulfed when crews arrived.
“They asked for more units right away. At 4:11 a second alarm was struck. We had a total of 14 trucks and 60 fire fighters,” he explained.
“It’s all wood so it is almost like fighting gasoline.”
There were no injuries reported and fire investigators have been trying to determine a cause.
MacDonald said the cost would likely be two to three million dollars but could have been higher.
“It was a really good save considering the fire load.”
According to their website, Lonestar Lumber has revenues in the multi-millions and has been considered one of western Canada’s largest supplies of manufactured lumber goods.
