The man who had been charged in connection to the late September 2013 collision that left a little boy dead in St. Albert, was handed a fine in court Monday.

Joseph Allen, 62, pleaded guilty to a charge of failing to yield to a pedestrian, and was given a $2,000 fine.

Another charge, of careless driving, was withdrawn.

The charges stemmed from a crash that left Thomas Wedman, 6, dead on Friday, September 27, 2013.

Officials said the boy was in the crosswalk on Woodlands Road, at the intersection of Sir Winston Churchill Avenue, when he was hit by a school bus with children on board before 9 a.m. that day.

The bus driver was later charged in November with careless driving and failing to yield to a pedestrian.

In late January, he pleaded not guilty to both charges.
