A judge says there is sufficient evidence to recommend the extradition of an Edmonton man to the United States.

Justice Adam Germain made the ruling Friday, over a year after Sayfildin Tahir-Sharif was arrested in our city at the request of the FBI.

Tahir-Sharif is charged in the U.S. for allegedly supporting a terrorist group that took part in a suicide bombing in Iraq which killed five American soldiers in April 2009.

Despite Justice Germain’s findings the process could be far from over.

There is a 30 day appeal period which Tahir-Sharif’s lawyer said they will likely use.

It’s then up to the Justice Minister to make the final decision whether or not to extradite the man.
