Susan was born and raised in west Edmonton and developed a love for information when she was in elementary school. Some of her early memories include watching Lloyd Robertson and Harvey Kirck anchoring and another television news anchor saying the word “Watergate”.
In high school, Susan remembers her drama teacher showing them a video camera; the teenager was captivated. After graduation, Susan attended NAIT Radio and Television Arts and when she went to Red Deer for work experience at CKRD, she got her first job in broadcasting and never looked back.
Susan’s history at CTV first began in 1987; during her “first” 13 years at the station, Susan reported, anchored and produced. She left in the fall of 1999 and pursued a freelance career, working for various production companies. Over 8 years, she enjoyed working on documentaries for Discovery Channel, Life Network, TLC, History Channal and OLN.
In September 2007, an opportunity presented itself … Susan returned to CTV to produce a weekly feature “School Zone”; the following spring, she added reporting duties. She admits she was very nervous at first; it had been more than a decade since she had been “on the air”. But her love of imparting information and sharing stories soon helped her get over the jitters and she now reports 4 days a week.
When she’s not working, Susan’s busy with her family. She and her husband have 4 kids; Susan also loves cooking and baking and riding horses. She regularly works out, running and weight training and someday she hopes to return to Taekwondo and take her black belt test.
