A northeast Edmonton pizza restaurant was ravaged by an overnight fire.

Firefighters responded to a report of a blaze at Papa’s Baked Pizza on 135 Avenue and Victoria Trail at 1:01 a.m.

The flames were coming from the roof, fire said.

Crews had the blaze under control in one hour and it was contained to the pizza restaurant. Firefighters cleared the scene around 6 a.m.

There was a gas leak at the Belmont Town Centre – where Papa’s Baked Pizza is located – on July 30. Investigators found two propane tanks and a gasoline can in a mechanical room, and because of the strong gas smell, the strip mall had to be evacuated.

“I just said, ‘Oh, my God, not again,” Belmont Town Centre maintenance manager Stephen Sampson said. “It’s frustrating. I wanna catch who’s doing this.”

No one was injured during the fire.

There is no damage estimate and the cause is under investigation.

Police said the arson unit will look at the file to see if it criminal activity caused the fire, but that does not mean arson is suspected at this time.
