City of Edmonton officials will be delivering sandbags to the community of Riverdale.

About 1,000 sandbags will be placed at two low lying properties on 102 Avenue and 88 Street.

A section of that area will be closed until Monday morning. Officials in Edmonton said they were still watching the North Saskatchewan River for potential flood dangers.

On Friday Alberta Environment issued a Flood Watch for the city, which means the water levels in the river are expected to rise.

Due to the danger the City has warned residents to stay off the North Saskatchewan River.

They said the river is fast moving and contains debris that may present a danger.

Rescue crews have been patrolling the river and were called out to rescue several people stranded on  a raft near the Dawson Bridge Saturday afternoon.

The three individuals on the inflatable craft were without paddles and officials advised them to get to shore before police needed to be called in.

EMS rescued the individuals at the Rundle Park footbridge and 50th Street boat launch.

The City has also advised those using River Valley Trails to use caution and obey any signs posted.
