The scene of an explosion in Fort Saskatchewan is now in the hands of Occupational Health and Safety officials, who will investigate the incident.
The City of Fort Saskatchewan said investigators found the cause of the explosion was a gas leak in the basement of the home, located on Allard Way in the South Pointe neighbourhood.
The City of Fort Saskatchewan announced Thursday via Twitter that emergency crews had responded to the scene of an explosion on Allard Way after 1:15 p.m.
According to the city, three people were transported to hospital; AHS said all three were in serious condition.
The explosion and subsequent fire were under control within an hour of emergency crews arriving.
It’s believed the explosion happened on a residential construction site, and the three people injured were working on the single-family home.
CTV News has learned the three injured men are plumbers, and were working in the basement of the new home that was nearing completion.
Two of the injured men have been identified as brothers, 48-year-old Wes and 42-year-old Wilfred Michalycia.
The third man is related to the other two.
Other workers on the site were able to pull the three men from the home before emergency crews arrived.
