The federal government said it was putting millions of dollars into improving parts of a northern Alberta airport, and buying equipment.
Chris Warkentin, the Member of Parliament for Peace River made the multi-million dollar announcement in Grande Prairie Tuesday, on behalf of Transport Minister Lisa Raitt.
An investment of $5,536,924 will go towards rehabilitating Runway 12-30, and repairing the apron at the Grande Prairie Airport, in addition to buying an aircraft rescue firefighting vehicle for the airport.
Officials said the improvements will go to improve safety at the airport, and enhance emergency response capability at the airport.
Officials said funding came from Transport Canada’s Airports Capital Assistance Program.
